Structure of the CampsThe occupiers took a Marxist approach and was organized through a collective leadership. They were split into groups and each group consisted of 10-15 families with each member of the family joining a different 'nucleos' and being involved in the community in regards to education, food, etc. General assemblies were also a part of each camp.

International SupportThe political openings in the 1980s also increased democratic openings in the national scale. The movement spread internationally when the media reported the massacres of rural workers. International connections and support made the world more aware what was going on and garnered support.
